Mario has been Nintendo's mascot for the past 25 years and has had more
success as far as the number of games sold (and even games made for that matter) than any other game or character in video
game history. Mario has been in over 50 different games, whether he's been a co-star, playable character, or the
star himself, and in countless remakes of his games. Being the most popular video game character of all-time, Mario is
also the most well-known character since he is a household name in almost every home in many various countries. Mario was
a good way for the up-and-coming game developer, Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario's creator) to establish a name for himself. Despite
his popularity though, he has definitely not always been a household name. In fact, in his first debut in the original title
Donkey Kong he was only known as "Jumpman" since he had no official name and jumped all of the time.

Also, Mario appeared as a carpenter in Donkey Kong, not a plumber. Mario is a pudgy, Italian accented, moustachioed
man that stands 5 feet 1 inch tall (55cm) and wears a pair of blue overalls, a red shirt, white gloves, and a red cap that
bears an 'M' emblem on the front of it. Mario, originally named "Jumpman" had his name changed to Mario because of physical
similarities between himself and Mario Segale, the president of Nintendo of America, and that he looked Italian. Mario also
changed occupations in his next game, Mario Bros., from a carpenter to a plumber (eventually inspiring the 'pipes' idea) when one of Miyamoto's colleagues
noted that Mario looked more of a plumber rather a carpenter due to the limited color varieties in Donkey Kong and
from then on was a plumber.
